The design brief

What Design is being asked to create, and the rules it plays by

FigJam: in the app↗FigJam: out of the app↗

4 things to make · 1 email family · 2 push sets · 4 new 0 reworded

Due at Gate 2; the date is set when the round is scoped. One call is Design’s at the design session: how one day-after email carries three jobs as a single family without reading as three templates. The surfaces, their budgets and Product’s approvals: the Product brief tab.

The problem  Our best moment is answered with silence. The full framing and the evidence: the campaign brief.

The job to be done  “Remind me at the right moment, make sharing easy, and ask me for nothing until the trip has actually gone well.”

The question the work must answer

We get one glance ninety minutes after arrival, one email a day later, one nudge weeks later. What should the value proof feel like so the win lands as the customer’s own win, and the one ask that follows feels earned rather than extracted?

What to produce
Out of the app: the three sends3 assetsThis group in FigJam ↗
The spine's outbound half. All three are new sends; the nudge re-anchors a built, switched-off Canvas rather than starting from nothing.

1The value-proof push
PHASE 1
Its send is on the CRM brief.
PUSH
reaches them just after the trip ends
NEW
Nothing fires at the reflection moment today.
COPY AND LAYOUT
Title and body, two registers.
  • Returning winner: You saved {saved} on that trip · First Class on {route} for less than the walk-up price. That’s it: no ask, just a good trip
  • First-trip winner: Your first upgrade paid off · {saved} under the walk-up price on {route}. That’s it: no ask, just a good trip

BRAZE
A Braze Canvas send on the journey's entry clock.
The job to be done
Convert post-trip emotion into proven value, ninety minutes after arrival.
Never on a disrupted trip, never to a power user, and never an up-to figure: a missing saving holds the send.
Copy direction, not final words
Prove the win with the customer’s own figure, then stop. The absence of an ask is the design.

EMAIL
reaches them the day after the trip
NEW
The journey's own trip-anchored email; the existing day-after survey stays untouched beside it.
COPY AND LAYOUT
One master email, three job variants by Liquid, one subject line each.
  • The return-leg bid: Heading back on {route}? · upgrades live from {from_price} on your return leg · CTA See your return upgrades
  • The earned referral ask: Give £5, get £5 · first-trip register leads, the {n}-trips line is the repeat variant · CTA Share your link. The reward-timing line is contingent on the reward-delivery fix
  • The savings tracker default: Your Seatfrog savings so far · {total} saved · CTA Plan your next trip
▸ The job, the copy and where it lives
Where the copy lives
BRAZE
One master campaign, Liquid-forked, in the journey Canvas.
The job to be done
Carry the slot's one ask, or its quiet default, without competing sends.
The referral variant fires from the first completed first-class trip, positive-trip gate passed, once per reward window, never at the win itself; the return-leg variant stands down once the pre-travel journey owns the trip; an unsubstantiated figure holds the line, never “up to”.
Copy direction, not final words
One email owns the day-after slot and arbitration picks its job: the return-leg bid when one is live, else the referral when the gate passes, else the tracker. The three variants must read as one family. A fourth variant, the review ask, is a consider-testing mock only: it is not in the proposed strategy and nothing fires until a test says otherwise.
3The re-booking nudge
PHASE 1
Its send is on the CRM brief.

PUSH
reaches them on their own purchase rhythm
PART NEW
The push is new; the built post-trip nurture Canvas and the Route Watch email already exist and are re-anchored, not re-authored.
COPY ONLY
Title and body; the second-knock email reuses the Route Watch email verbatim, no new design.
  • Default: Heading back on {route}? · Set a Route Watch and we’ll tell you the moment an upgrade opens on your line
  • Return-pattern timing variant: the same copy, fired at 48 hours
▸ The job, the copy and where it lives
Where the copy lives
BRAZE
The switched-off nurture Canvas is the built vehicle; its control machinery already works.
The job to be done
Seed the next booking on the customer’s own rhythm, before the month-one cliff.
Floor at day three: an earlier send claims credit for the return leg. Never to power users; silent when the next trip is booked.
Copy direction, not final words
Point at the existing Route Watch mechanic on the customer’s own route; effortless, never salesy.

CONTENT CARD
waits in the For-you rail at their next open
NEW
The live referral content card has never delivered; this card is designed against a working delivery path.
COPY AND LAYOUT
One card frame in the For-you rail carrying four content states: the value proof (with the opt-in ask) and the three day-after slot jobs.
  • Value-proof state, at next open after a positive trip: You saved {saved} on that trip · {total} with Seatfrog so far. Want a heads-up next time {route} is upgradeable? · action Keep me posted (dismiss is the Not now); returning and first-trip registers
  • The day-after slot states from the following open: the return-leg bid, the £5 referral, and the savings tracker, as ruled on the slot
▸ The job, the copy and where it lives
Where the copy lives
BRAZE
A Braze content card in the For-you rail: the words update through Braze with no app release.
The job to be done
The value proof and the day-after slot for customers no send can reach, and the channel capture that makes them reachable next time.
One value-proof render per episode; the positive-trip gate at send time; never on the disrupted path. The value-proof state leads the first open; the slot’s ask surfaces from the next open. If opt-in uptake reads low, a permission modal is a consider-testing candidate behind that read, never a default.
Copy direction, not final words
The saving as the hero; the opt-in ask is value-framed, sits clear of any rating ask, and a card tap is a choice: nothing interrupts the home screen (her 1 Sep 2026 ruling). The four states must read as one design.

If it is not in these two tables, it is not in this round. The survey repair, the referral stand-downs and the reward fix are rule and engineering work with nothing to design.

One job per message, and the value proof carries no ask of any kind. Never an up-to claim: the saving is the customer's own, true and dynamic, or the message holds. No discounts anywhere in this journey. Push titles stay under forty characters and bodies under one hundred and twenty five; email subjects under forty five with a preheader and one button. Copy is timeless: no dates, seasons or offers. Persona sets tone only, never cadence.

The strategy this brief serves sits one tab left (Campaign brief); every asset below renders in situ on the Live walkthrough tab.

The design question

The design question. We get one glance 90 minutes after arrival, one email the day after the trip, one nudge weeks later. What should the value proof feel like so the win lands as THEIR win, and the one ask that follows feels earned rather than extracted?

The split. We hold the frame (spine, arbitration, triggers, channels, measurement), you own the experience and creative, and this round can still challenge the spine before Gate 1.

The voice: inherited, not re-tested (one headline test per journey release). Version A (brand voice) and Version B (frog) run through the walkthrough as copy exploration; Journey 8’s test carries the evidence and the guardrail read.

Version A · brand voiceVersion B · the frog
The ideaState the saving plainly and warmly: a true figure, their route, no ask 90 minutes after arrival. The same proof from the frog keeping count: recognition with charm, useful where a brand celebrating itself reads smug.
You exploreHow a £-figure lands as THEIR win, not our boast; per-trip vs cumulative layout. How present the frog is in a value message, and what it never does (no guilt, no streaks).
Hard rulesNever “up to”: the figure is a computed trait or the message is HELD · celebrate + reassure only 90 minutes after arrival: NO referral, NO review ask · one job per message · no discounts anywhere in this journey.

Format rules, every asset:

What to produce. The assets below, each under its brief. Variants differ by register and test arm, never by job.

Touch brief · value-proof push, T+90min
Objective: prove the saving on the trip just taken, lifting next-transaction rate within 60d against the holdout (O3).
Customer moment & JTBD: ninety minutes after a positive trip, the experience is still warm. The job: celebrate and reassure, ask nothing.
The single message: you saved £X on that trip.
CTA & destination: no CTA line; the tap deep-links to the savings view.
Mandatories: the held-send rule. NO referral, NO review ask, no discounts.
Signal: tap-through, with zero asks present (the guardrail).

Touch brief · The For-you card (for winners we cannot message)
Objective: give non-contactable winners the same proof plus one value-framed opt-in, so the unreachable become reachable (O3).
Customer moment & JTBD: a winner holding no channel opens the app after a positive trip. The job: show the saving, then give one useful reason to turn alerts on.
The single message: £X saved across N trips; want a heads-up next time your route is upgradeable?
CTA & destination: the opt-in pair, “Turn on” or “Not now”.
Mandatories: consent-free, kept clear of any rating ask, held-send rule applies. First-trip and repeat variants.
Signal: opt-in accepts on the modal.

▸ Touch brief: day-after email (one send, three arbitrated jobs)
Touch brief · day-after email (one send, three arbitrated jobs)
Objective: spend the one day-after slot on the highest-value eligible job, so advocacy opens on a rule-compliant rail, ratings are earned while trips are fresh, and value is banked otherwise (O3).
Customer moment & JTBD: 24 hours after a positive trip, exactly ONE email sends. Arbitration decides its job, in strict order:
1. The earned referral ask: second or third transaction AND positive trip AND no open reward window.
2. The review ask: a positive won-bid trip, not yet rated.
3. The savings tracker: the default, one plan-next CTA.
The job: one right ask, never stacked.
The single message: one of three, never combined: share the love (£5 each) / rate the trip / here is what you saved, plan the next one.
CTA & destination: one button per variant: the referral share, the store review sheet (private survey for no-upgrade trips), or Plan your next trip.
Mandatories: one job per send, variants never combine. The referral claim is the true double-sided £5. Savings recall never becomes a second CTA. The feedback-survey job stays with the day-after survey email, kept at purchase plus one day. The default does not send inside grw01_canvas_active.
Signal: shares and redemptions with net referral volume holding; review completions with the App Store rating holding; plan-next clicks with next transaction within 60d vs the holdout.

Touch brief · Cadence nudge
Objective: seed the next booking at their own rhythm, landing the next transaction within 60d against the holdout (O3).
Customer moment & JTBD: their personal median gap is approaching (personal_median_inter_txn_gap; fallback 15-16d). The job: make re-booking the same route effortless, once, via the existing Route Watch mechanic.
The single message: heading back the same way? Set a Route Watch.
CTA & destination: the Route Watch on their route; the tap deep-links to it.
Mandatories: one nudge on their stronger channel, a second knock only if the first goes unseen (agreed). Suppressed once the next trip is booked, and for power users. Persona flexes tone only, never cadence. Timeless copy.
